Liquid Coatings
Liquid Coatings Can Be Applied Using Different Equipment and Techniques
The choice of how the coating is applied can affect its physical properties
such as dry film thickness, wear resistance, abrasion resistance, non-stick
and release properties.
Airless Spray Equipment is used to apply liquid coatings such as wear and
abrasion resistant epoxies by pressurizing the coating up to 6000 psig atomizing
the coating into small particles depositing them on the surface being coated.
Conventional Air Spray Equipment is used to apply liquid coatings such as
dry film lubricants by pressurizing the coating at low pressures and passing
it through a stream of pressurized air up to 100 psig atomizing the coating
into small particles and deposits them on to the surface being coated.
Electrostatic Liquid Air Spray Equipment is similar to conventional air spray
equipment except that an electrical charge is placed on the coating and the
opposite electrical charge is placed on to the item being coated. This creates
a powerful attraction between the two allowing for higher and more even deposition
rates.
Curtain Coating Equipment is used to apply a liquid coating by rapidly passing
the item to be coated through a thin curtain of falling coating. This technique
allows very thin, uniform coatings to be applied to flat surfaces very quickly.
HVLP Equipment (High Velocity Low Pressure) is used to coat items with a liquid.
The pressurized coating is propelled through a gun at high speeds and then
passed through a stream of very low pressure air atomizing the coating into
small particles and depositing them on to the item’s surface.
Plural Component Equipment is used to apply a liquid whose curing reaction
mechanism is so fast that the different components of the coating cannot be
mixed together until they reach the spray gun. Using this equipment, each of
the components are placed in different tanks, heated and forced into a mixing
chamber inside the spray gun then applied onto the item.
