METCO ® 76F-NS
Metco has designed a new tungsten carbide cobalt powder (76F-NS) for
thermal spray applications requiring resistance to abrasion, low angle erosion
and corrosion.
Coatings of 76F-NS are not technique dependent and may be applied up to 0.050" thick
on flat grit blasted carbon steel surfaces. As a result Metco 76F-NS
coatings may easily be used for on-site or field applications such as far blades,
pump seals, thread guides, wire drawing capstans and mandrels.
Metco 76F-NS is a sintered tungsten carbide - 18 wt.% cobalt powder.
Particle size (-53 +10 micron) has been developed to maximize coating density
without sacrificing coating thickness or finish. In addition, carbon chemistry
has been adjusted to compensate for decarburization losses, while carbide size
has been optimized for proper solutioning with Metco combustion hardware.
Typical Composition:
- Chemistry: Cobalt 18 wt.%
- Tungsten Carbide 82 wt.%
Coating Properties
Metco 76F-NS coatings approach the wear resistance of plasma sprayed
tungsten carbide-cobalt coatings. Adhesive bond strength testing shows these
coatings to exceed 8000 psi. Coating density measures 12.5 gms./cc with less
than 2% porosity.
The amount of tungsten carbides out of solution is typically 17-20%; with
a coating microhardness of DPH 300 850-950. The macrohardness of Metco 76F-NS
as measured is Rc 55-59. As-sprayed surface finishes measure 350-450 microinches,
ground finishes measure less than 4 microinches. Metco 76F-NS coatings
cannot be typically finished by machining.
