METCO ® 36C
Metco 36C is a blend of large tungsten carbide particles in a nickel-chromium,
self-fluxing alloy powder. Coatings of Metco 36C are more wear resistant
than any other Metco fused coating.
Tests show the abrasive wear resistance of Metco 36C coatings is 1.5
times that of Metco 32C coatings, even though 36C contains a smaller
percentage of tungsten carbide.
The tungsten carbide used in 32C is in the form of WC-12% Cobalt aggregate
and, therefore, some of the WC tends to go into solution with the cobalt when
the coating is fused, thus losing some of its extreme hardness. On the other
hand, the tungsten carbide particles in 36C are large, blocky and unaffected
by the heat of fusing. Thus, they form a harder, more continuous surface in
the coating, which resists wear much longer.
Metco 36C should be used for all applications where a premium wear resistant
coating is required. It is highly resistant to wear by abrasive grains, hard
surfaces, fretting and particle erosion, all at temperatures up to 540ºC
(1000ºF).
Typical Composition:
- Tungsten Carbide-8% Nickel Composite 35%
- Chromium 11.0%
- Boron 2.5%
- Iron 2.5%
- Silicon 2.5%
- Carbon 0.5%
- Nickel Balance

Wear Resistance
Metco 36C coatings exhibit 1.5 times the wear resistance of Metco 32C
coatings. Wear tests conducted using an abrasive slurry of water and aluminum
oxide.
